Surat: The Directorate of Income Intelligence (DRI) seized a consignment of tramadol hydrochloride tablets, declared as psychotropic substance, valued at Rs 1.20 crore, from Hazira port and arrested three individuals on Wednesday.
Performing on particular data, the DRI sleuths raided the port and seized two containers consisting of about 15 lakh tramadol hydrochloride tablets of 225 mg being exported to Guna in Africa.
Three individuals from two healthcare firms concerned in manufacturing and distribution of the tablets have been arrested and brought to the New Civil Hospital (NCH) for the Covid-19 take a look at within the night. The accused have been recognized as Harshal Desai, Mehul Desai and Shameshwar Patil—all residents of Surat.
Official sources stated that the tablets have been manufactured in Patil’s unit positioned in Mangrol in Surat district. Earlier too, these three have been arrested for illegally exporting about 45 lakh tramadol tablets valued at Rs 3.60 crore to an African nation few years in the past.
Sources stated that the trio was arrested beneath the Narcotic Medicine and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act and they are going to be produced within the courtroom on Thursday.
On April 26, 2018, division of income, ministry of finance, by means of its notification had declared tramadol as a psychotropic substance to regulate its abuse and misuse. Because of this, the sale and distribution of tramadol is beneath the supervision and management of Narcotics Management Bureau (NCB).
