SURAT: As many as 11 doctors, including seven from New Civil Hospital in the city, were tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday. Two nurses, a BJP leader, pharmacist of Kamrej Primary Health Centre and sanitary sub -inspector were among 204 who were infected with Covid-19.
Surat city reported 204 fresh Covid-19 cases, the highest cases in the state for the fifth consecutive da, on Tuesday. Five more patients succumbed to the virus taking the death toll to 235 in the city.
Katargam zone is the Covid-19 hotspot in the city and continues to report highest number of cases in the city. On Tuesday, it reported 40 fresh cases taking the tally to 1,562 followed by 37 in Varachha (A), 29 in Varachha (B) 26 in Rander, and 22 cases in Limbayat zone in the city.
Of the five deaths on Tuesday, one was from Katargam, one from central zone, one from Varachha (A) and patient was from Athwa zone in the city.
Meanwhile, 139 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals in Surat city on Tuesday. Total 3,774 patients have been recovered and discharged till date in the city.
In another development, plasma bank began at New Civil hospital in the city and nine recovered patients donated their plasma on Tuesday. Earlier on Sunday, a blood bank at SMC run SMIMER hospital started plasma bank and started collecting plasma from Covid-19 recovered patients.
