COIMBATORE: A Covid-19 positive patient escaped from ESI Hospital in Coimbatore on Tuesday evening. The city police traced the patient, who was about 3-km-away from the hospital, with the help of his son.
Police said the 55-year-old patient from Kundadam in Tirupur district was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital two days ago for a kidney problem. In the meantime, he developed flu symptoms and the health department staff took swab samples from him on Monday. He tested positive for Covid-19 and was shifted to the Covid-19 care ward of ESI hospital on Tuesday morning.
Around 5pm on Tuesday, he escaped from the hospital and called his son, asking him to pick him up at Singanallur. Meanwhile, his son contacted the Aathma Trust and sent his father’s details along with his photographs.
Following this, a team of police from Singanallur station launched a search and found him on the Trichy Road. A 108 ambulance arrived immediately to take him back to ESI Hospital.
