One Week Left to Sign Up for the Rose Gold Edition of the Amex Gold

One of the biggest trends of 2018 was credit cards getting refreshes, adding new perks, bonus categories or even transfer partners to get more competitive. Often these changes happen on paper only and don’t entail a new card launch, so you can just keep using your newly improved card without thinking twice about it.

But when Amex redesigned the American Express® Gold Card, not only did it add 4x bonus categories on US restaurants and US supermarkets (up to $25,000 a year for supermarkets; then 1x) and a $120 annual dining credit, but it also changed the name from The Premier Rewards Gold Card to the Amex Gold Card and redesigned the card itself.

The new metal card is sleek and pretty, but the most eye-catching part of the relaunch was the limited-edition rose gold version. The demand for this card was so intense that it briefly crashed the USPS delivery system. Whether you’re an existing card holder looking to get this limited-edition design or a potential new applicant on the fence, time is running out. You have one week — until Jan. 9 — to apply for the rose gold Amex Gold Card.

Obviously you shouldn’t apply for a credit card for aesthetic reasons alone, but there are plenty of other reasons to love the Amex Gold Card. The $250 annual fee is almost entirely offset by the $100 annual airline incidental credit and $120 annual dining credit, which breaks down to $10 a month at the following partners: Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House and participating Shake Shack locations. If you apply before Jan. 9, you’ll also receive a 20% statement credit for purchases at US restaurants in your first 3 months of card membership, up to $100 back.

For a card that only costs $30 out of pocket after factoring in the statement credits, the Amex Gold offers some incredible earning potential. The 4x points on US restaurants and supermarkets, which translates to an 8% return based on TPG’s valuations, is among the best offered by any credit card. Just keep an eye out to make sure that your dining transactions code the way you expect them to.

Bottom Line

With only one week left to apply for the limited-edition rose gold Amex Gold, it’s time to make up your mind about whether this card belongs in your wallet. If you’re an existing card holder looking to get your hands on the limited-edition design, you can follow this guide to order your replacement card ASAP.
